Knitting
Over the past few weeks I've been trying to teach myself how to knit. Knitting is a bit harder than I expected. I've got a not so great practice scarf going. My end goal is to make 2 scarves and maybe a hat by the time we go to Rome in December. I'm also going to try to learn to crochet. But first to make I need to learn to knit without having to think of each step. I also need to learn how not to make it grow with time. This is not going so well. I'll keep trying. Anyone got any suggestions?

Just keep going! When I started out I just sat down (I was a lifeguard at the time so by the pool) and knitted scarf after scarf. In the beginning I had to really watch to make sure I wasn't adding or dropping stitches, and to make sure that the stitches were loose enough that it was easy to make the next row. So I guess that's my starting out knitting advice! I kept knitting scarfs (I had dozens and finally sold some at craft fairs because all my family members got them as gifts) for a couple years before I tried a baby sweater! Good luck!

My grandma taught my how to knit way back with I was a kiddo (sorry, I can't remember how to do it anymore....) So my advice would be to ask a lady at your parish to teach you.
ReplyDeleteAlso, in my experience crocheting is easier to learn. I don't know why but the crocheting I learned with my grandma stuck a lot better than the knitting.
